Fate and impact of bioplastics in the bioprocesses of anaerobic digestion and composting in the context of sustainable waste management
The VALOPLAST project aims to explore the biodegradability of commercially available bioplastics under anaerobic and composting conditions. By investigating their co-digestion with food waste (FW) and identifying the key microorganisms involved, we will develop mathematical models and assess the sustainability of these processes.
Bioplastics are plastics made from renewable biological sources such as plants, microorganisms, or organic waste rather than petroleum.
The research project VALOPLAST:Fate and impact of bioplastics in the bioprocesses of anaerobic digestion and composting in the context of sustainable waste management is implemented in the framework of H.F.R.I call “Basic research Financing (Horizontal support of all Sciences)” under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0” funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU (H.F.R.I. Project Number:XXXX).
